House 43

The number on our house is 43, hence the blog name House 43. That's about as creative as I can get for a title. The house has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. There is a roughed in bathroom in the basement which we will finish at some point. There are 3 living areas, the den, the formal living room and the basement rec room.  There is a double garage and eat in kitchen. Here are the pictures we took when we first got possession.

I will upload basement pictures another time. The first thing we did was paint the main entrance a neutral color. There was no way I could handle walking in to a dungeon so it was a must to have it painted. You can see the new color in the last picture. It definitely brightened up the entrance which was what I was going for. So there is the first official home tour.

The Beginning.

Recently I purchased my first home! Yikes! It's been a goal of mine for a long time and way back in December 2012 I was able to start looking.  I basically knew what I wanted in a home and I wasn't going to settle for anything less, well, maybe I had to give up the dream of a house with a pool, but that's not to say its not on my wish list!  So in December, right before Christmas (i know right?!, who buys a house right before Christmas!?!  I do!) I started the search.  I kind of had my heart set on a new build but couldn't wait for 9 months while they built it! I'm somewhat of a compulsive buyer, when I want something, I want it NOW! So after looking at new houses and realizing that they were at the top of my budget and not completely finished I started to look for something a bit older that had a complete house.  To be honest, I looked at about 10 houses online and in person before I came across my house. At first I saw it online, I was like, "no way! that's ugly! who would buy that?" etc. etc. and then 2 weeks passed and I was starting to feel the pressure of never finding my home.  So reluctantly I went back to the "ugly house" and asked my real estate agent to show the house so I could see it in real life.  So long story short, it ended up having basically everything on my wish list, minus the pool.  I could definitely work with it.  I wanted a house with a lot of windows, windows that you could open and have a fresh breeze coming through, 4-5 bedrooms (don't ask me why, I like options), 2-3 bathrooms, 2 living areas (one for me and one for the kids), a decent backyard (but one that could fit a future pool), privacy ( a must!), a garage, and last but not least, POTENTIAL!! and I found it, in the "ugly house"!
We've been in the house for 3 months and are still not complete unpacked but that's on the list of things to do.  The purpose of my blog is to have a diary of sorts so that I could look back at my journey of renovating my "dream" home and so I can always look back and realize how far its come.  With that, here we are at The Beginning.  BEFORE pictures coming right up......
